Internal Environmental Measures
We have established an internal commitee to monitor and report on our environmental impact and improvements.
We have taken specific measures to reduce our footprint as follows :
- Our office premises have movement sensors which cause the office lights to turn off when there is no activity.
- In the next financial year, we will be consolidating our network servers by using OSBTI virtualisation technologies. This will reduce the power consumption of the servers by approximately 80%.
- We have replaced our computer room airconditioning system with a more power efficient system which continually monitors temperature and adjusts it's own output and power consumption accordingly.
- We recycle more than 95% of the cardboard and paper we use.
Environmental Stewardship
PeopleStreme is making an effort to change the way we work but also to help our customers reduce their ecological footprint. We are actively pursuing this strategy in two ways :
1. Our software provides a compliance framework for organisations to help ensure that managers and employees can all be made accountable for environmental sustainability.
2. We are producing specific measures and objectives for use in our software, to make it easier for managers to set environmental goals for their teams.
Indirect Environmental Benefits
The automation of business processes can have a large impact on the reduction of paper use. There is also an environmental cost to manufacture and dispose of computers and in power useage but this is a requirement of the modern age and we are helping make better use of these environmental costs.

Organisations need leaders to guide them. Our own leaders have their own unique environmental management initiatives.
Marlin Research
PeopleStreme CEO, Lyle Potgieter, has independently funded deep sea research into Marlin behaviour in order to ensure sustainability of this species. There has always been conjecture of the impact of sports fishing and Lyle has conducted research off the continental shelf in Queensland to determine how Marlin behave after they are caught, tagged and released. The research has been presented to Australia's CSIRO and is globally unique in that this is the first time a marlin has been filmed live after it has been release. Several technologies were invented along the way and patents are due to be filed. It is believed the marlin in question dove to a depth of approximately 200m before recovering and levelling out, all of which was captured on live video.
This has proved that big game fish are capable of surviving after capture and that they recover very quickly. It is the first time the entire episode has been caught by deep see camera.
Olive Grove
PeopleStreme COO, Peter Vlant, has established an olive grove of three hundred olive trees in Gippsland Victoria. The trees were planted in 2004 as 1 metre sapplings and have grown strongly without artificial fertilisers or chemicals and with dammed water. As at 2007, the trees are approximately 2m tall on average and produced approximately 800KG of oil producing olives. While the carbon offset effects are relatively small at present, they are expected to improve as the grove matures.
The Environmental Journey
We recognize that we have much further to go and we are keen to learn from others who can help meet the joint objectives of organisation and environmental sustainability. We are already working with some of our customers towards this goal.
We continue to actively extend our environmental management measures and practical targets on an ongoing basis.
